Thomas Harland 1887 - 1955: a Meldreth soldier injured at the Battle of Mons

Thomas Harland was born in Kentish Town, London but grew up in Meldreth. He enlisted in the Army and was serving as a Reservist with the Worcester Regiment when he was badly injured at the Battle of Mons in October 1914. He was brought back to England and underwent treatment at the Eastern General Hospital in the grounds of Trinity College, Cambridge. He later returned to Meldreth and died in May 1955 at the age of 69, by that time a patient in Fulbourn Hospital.
