Able Seaman Joseph Missin, KIA 25/3/18. From Gorefield.
Able Seaman Joseph Missin Howe barn. Royal Naval Division killed in action 25/3/18, brother of George Missin ( killed 23/8/18) son of Mr and Mrs J Missin, Fitton End Gorefield. Commemorated on Arras memorial and Gorefield war memorial.
” Found dead on the battlefield at Ruyaulcourt 25/3/18 ( It would appear AB Missin first went missing on 22nd March during the retreat from Cambrai) On the 22nd, the 2nd RN Bn were withdrawing from the area around Ruyaulcourt and by the 25th were miles back in the Old Somme 1916 Sector. It seems highly likely that AB Missin’s body was found by the Germans on 25/3/18 at Ruyaulcourt and that this date has been substituted for the true date he was killed. A fruit grower born Gorefield, Cambs 17/8/1890 wife Mrs E Missin Nr Post Office, Leverington, Wisbech, Cambs”
